About The Position

Allied Universal is hiring a part-time Security Officer for a transitional shelter in South Ozone Park, New York. The role provides a designated weekly anchor shift at an assigned site, with a six-month commitment. Officers may claim additional shifts through the company’s scheduling platform, providing the option to increase hours and build toward a full-time schedule of up to 40 hours per week. The listed pay rate is $18.87 per hour.

The position serves shelter residents, visitors, staff, and clients by following site-specific security procedures and responding to concerns and emergencies. The scheduled shift is Saturday, 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Employment is subject to a background investigation and, where permitted by law, a drug screen. Licensing may be required under applicable state or local regulations.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old for unarmed roles; armed roles require applicants to be at least 21.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Submit to a background investigation in accordance with applicable laws.
• Submit to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
• Meet any applicable state or local licensing requirements, which may be required before employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to residents, visitors, staff, and clients by following site-specific security procedures, policies, and emergency response activities.
• Respond calmly and professionally to incidents, resident concerns, and critical situations, following established site protocols.
• Conduct regular and random unarmed patrols of shelter common areas, entrances, exits, exterior grounds, and perimeter.
• Monitor access points, verify authorized entry as required, and accurately document observations, incidents, and policy violations.
• Communicate respectfully with shelter residents and staff, and escalate security concerns to appropriate site contacts or emergency services when needed.
