The Security Officer provides a visible, professional deterrent to crime at a grocery store, supporting Store Management and Asset Protection through observation, presence, and reporting—not enforcement. The primary post is the front entrance or exit, with periodic interior and exterior patrols as secondary duties. The officer follows direction from Store Management or Asset Protection, maintains a polite and respectful manner, and does not argue with or accuse customers. The officer wears the full agency-issued uniform with visible identification and insignia at all times; weather outerwear must match the uniform and display insignia. Weapons and restraints of any kind are prohibited on the property. The officer may observe and report suspicious activity, provide requested backup support, assist when Management or Asset Protection asks people to leave, and complete written incident reports according to agency procedures. The officer must not approach or question suspected shoplifters, detain, chase, block, touch, or use physical force against anyone. Personal and public safety are the top priorities. Officers must not risk injury to recover merchandise and must disengage if a situation escalates, contacting Store Management, Asset Protection, or law enforcement as directed. No prior experience is necessary; training is provided. Retail, food service, or hospitality experience is considered a good fit. Schedules listed are Thursday–Friday or Saturday–Sunday, 2:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m., and a Saco schedule of Thursday–Monday, with Sunday 1:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. and the other listed days 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. Starting pay is $22.50 per hour.
