About The Position

The Security Officer serves as the Safety Operations Supervisor. The main purpose of the Safety Operations Supervisor is to provide consistent, excellent customer service while overseeing and maintaining the safety and loss prevention of the University Libraries for our faculty, staff, students, and patrons. Reporting to the Service Excellence and Safety Manager, the position will also provide student employee supervision, role modeling, support, customer service, and timely/effective communication during the evening and weekend operational hours. The incumbent will supervise up to 10 safety student employees ensuring they are trained and prepared to handle building evacuations, regular opening and closing of the library buildings, difficult situations, emergencies and general questions from faculty, staff, students, and patrons. The Safety Operations Supervisor will be based at Lied Library with specific safety and loss prevention responsibilities for the three branches located on the UNLV Maryland campus. The incumbent will regularly conduct visual checks through camera monitors and/or by direct observation; monitor State property, displays and individuals entering and leaving the University Library buildings and take appropriate action according to campus and department policy. The incumbent will oversee buildings, checking windows, locks, doors and for damage or a possible breach of security; follow established procedures and guidelines when security or safety violations occur. This position will monitor the safety of the physical condition of the University Library buildings to include electrical, structural and mechanical systems, and report failures and deficiencies to the Service Excellence and Safety Manager as well as the Libraries Director of Facilities. The Safety Operations Supervisor will enforce University and Libraries policies, rules and regulations by verbally warning and trespassing violators as needed; interact with other State and local law enforcement agencies and other personnel to maintain the safety and security of the Libraries and branches, immediate surrounding property, faculty, staff, students and visiting public. Assist all visitors by providing or securing from other staff accurate information and directions, answering questions, explaining Libraries rules, policies and procedures and referring to appropriate staff or providing necessary forms. Maintain proper use, control and accountability of keys. In the absence of the Service Excellence and Safety Manager, this position will lead all building evacuations or emergency situations, providing direction and leadership to the Library staff on duty to support the evacuation or emergency. The Safety Operations Supervisor will provide accurate and timely emergency communications; administer first aid; coordinate efforts with local law enforcement agencies; complete required forms and reports.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work which included applying and implementing rules, regulations or established policies OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
