About The Position

The Security Officer provides consistent administration and enforcement of procedures designed to protect Publix associates, assets, and guests. The role provides onsite security for support facilities, enforces access-control protocols so that only authorized and properly identified individuals and vehicles enter, and responds to and assists with interruptions of business operations.

Requirements

• Be at least 20 years of age.
• Have a valid driver's license.
• Possess a Class D Security Officer's License or obtain one independently within 90 days of hire.
• Be able to withstand walking and standing for long periods.
• Be able to work any shift, including days, nights, late nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent telephone communication skills.
• Be able to perform mathematical computations and use a two-way radio.
• Have intermediate knowledge of the Transportation Driver Performance System (TDPS) and Microsoft Outlook.
• Be able and willing to adjust one's style or approach in response to differing circumstances and to work in ambiguous situations.
• Work effectively without close supervision or guidance.
• Set priorities, plan and coordinate work activities, schedule staff, and obtain and manage resources to accomplish work objectives on time and within budget.
• Work productively and effectively in stressful situations and under time pressures.
• Develop and maintain professional, trusting, positive, and productive working relationships with associates, managers, customers, and vendors.
• Attend to and verify the accuracy and completeness of detailed information in documents or on a computer, such as prices, quantities, weights, lists, or data.
• Create an environment demonstrating a positive and professional service orientation to internal customers.
• Use active-listening techniques to ensure understanding of information and show interest in the topic discussed.
• Show enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work, and demonstrate commitment to Publix and its mission.
• Have knowledge of Publix access-control procedures and inbound and outbound freight delivery procedures.
• Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of access to Publix facilities by associates, guests, and other non-facility personnel.
• Provide access control, routing, and shipping and receiving processing for product and equipment deliveries.
• Observe activities within the facility and report identified incidents or procedural deficiencies.
• Maintain accurate security-related records and documentation, including activity that occurs outside normal business.
• Communicate information to security supervisors, associates, and facility management.
