About The Position

An AH Security Officer 3 provides supervisory leadership to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors across AH facilities. This role oversees daily security operations, responds to incidents, coordinates scheduling, and serves as liaison with hospital administration. The Officer 3 also enforces safety policies, manages emergencies, and may support Corporate Investigations. The AHS Protection and Security Services (PSS) team provides 24/7 security coverage at our medical centers and is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patients, team members and visitors. Uniformed PSS officers are assigned posts and routinely patrol the facilities and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and unauthorized entry. During their tours, officers visually examine doors, windows and gates to ensure they remain intact and secure. Each PSS team member is highly trained to maintain an atmosphere that is calming to patients and welcoming to their families while also being able to deescalate situations in which emotions run high. All officers are specially trained in response control tactics and techniques and are called to respond to occurrences of workplace violence and fire safety. The PSS team is trained and leads our first response to significant events such as (Code Lockdown & Active Shooter, Abducted Child, Building Evacuation, Bomb Threats, etc.). The PSS team controls card access privileges at each of the medical centers; officers are trained to confront all unauthorized persons and, when necessary, contact local law enforcement for assistance. Additionally, PSS has an Investigations Office, which conducts follow-up investigations for all significant cases (i.e., Suspicion of Drug Diversion, Allegations of Assault, Domestic Violence, Workplace Violence, etc.); and an Emergency Management Office, which is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and implementation of emergency management standards system-wide to facilitate a safe environment.

Requirements

  • Must be available for recalls during off-hours and weekends for all significant events.
  • Must be able to conduct a thorough and complete administrative investigation and risk assessment.
  • Able to interact with senior leadership throughout the AH organization.
  • Valid RCT Certification with Iron Temple.
  • FEMA Incident Command System 100, 200 course completion.
  • IS 700 National Incident Management System course completion.
  • Proficient in the use of Security Technology to include AHECN distribution, IMC Computer, Mutualink, Victor Video System and ONYX Panel.
  • Ability to work various 8- or 12-hour shifts (including holidays).
  • Ability to be available for call-back assignments.
  • Ability to attend and successfully complete all mandatory training.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to four hours).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the hospital security staff and act as the Officer in Charge of the Security Team during their shift.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate the performance of Security Officers under their supervision.
  • Serve as the point of contact for escalated security issues or concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with Hospital Leadership and directly with the Off Shift Managers covering the Medical Centers.
  • Schedule and assign duties always ensuring adequate security coverage.
  • Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to deter and detect criminal activity, suspicious behavior, and unauthorized access.
  • Monitor security cameras, alarms, and other surveillance equipment to ensure the safety of the premises.
  • Secure entrances, exits, and restricted areas to prevent breaches or theft.
  • Control pedestrian and vehicular traffic as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned, including working various 8- or 12-hour shifts (including holidays), being available for call-back assignments, and attending and successfully completing all mandatory training.
  • Respond promptly to disturbances (AH Security Assistance) involving Team Members, Patients and/or Visitors. The Security Officer 3 will deescalate the situation and is responsible to ensure the safety of all persons and property.
  • Respond promptly to all acute medical events (AH Medical Assistance) to assist clinical staff as needed.
  • Respond promptly to all fire alarms (AH Facility Alert Fire Emergency) and participate in fire suppression and assist Team Members, Patients and Visitors as needed.
  • Respond and investigate all missing children (AH Missing Person/Child/Infant) and any suspected infant abduction (AH Infant Child Abduction).
  • Provide Leadership to our Team Members, Patients and Visitors during any Active Shooter situation (AH Active Shooter).
  • Assist all Team Members, Patients and Visitors during any Disaster or Emergency Situation (AH Facility Alerts).
  • Verify the identity of visitors and vendors entering AH Medical Centers, Corporate Locations and Off-Site Locations as appropriate.
  • Enforce hospital policies and procedures regarding access to sensitive areas including but not limited to patient rooms, operating rooms, or pharmacies.
  • Issue and manage all Team Member badges.
  • Use the EZ Lobby and Rep Trex computer systems to provide badge access to vendors.
  • Provide directions and assistance to patients and visitors.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while addressing complaints or concerns.
  • Serve as a visible point of contact to reassure staff and visitors that our facilities are a safe environment.
  • Prepare well written, detailed, and accurate incident reports for all security-related events utilizing the IMC Computer database.
  • Maintain logs of daily activities to include but not limited to patient scans, helicopter arrivals, property reports, contraband reports, panic button testing, and forensic patients.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with all Team Members.
  • Proficient in the use of Security Technology to include AHECN distribution, IMC Computer, Mutualink, Victor Video System and ONYX Panel.
  • Work closely with hospital staff, including the nursing and administrative teams, to ensure safety protocols are followed consistent with AH Policies and Procedures.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services as required.
  • Participate in the Iron Temple Response Control Techniques (RCT) Training twice per month and maintain a valid RCT Certification with Iron Temple.
  • Complete the FEMA Incident Command System 100, 200 course and the IS 700 National Incident Management System course.
  • Participate in the Emergency Management Decontamination Training.
  • Remain updated on all AH and Protection and Security Services Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist Supervisor who is responsible for case management for all investigations.
  • Be available for recalls during off-hours and weekends for all significant events.
  • Responsible for accurate payroll submission for investigative staff.
  • Conduct a thorough and complete administrative investigation and risk assessment.
  • Provide security related (WPV, Active Shooter) training for AH team members; able to professionally interact with all other entities within the LE and EMS community (Police, Fire, EMS, etc.).
  • Interact with senior leadership throughout the AH organization.
