Responsible for providing respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities, under supervision of a physician. This role involves evaluating prescriptions, measuring arterial blood gases, assessing patient conditions, and determining treatment requirements. The therapist renders aerosol medications and treatments, positions patients to assist breathing, and sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators and therapeutic gas administration apparatus to support respiration and maintain oxygen supply. They monitor patient responses to therapy, perform chest physiotherapy, and assist in diagnostic testing like pulmonary function tests. The position also includes patient education for chronic lung disease, demonstrating procedures to trainees, and potentially caring for premature infants, the elderly, and trauma patients. Other related duties as assigned.
