About The Position

The Security Dispatcher is responsible for maintaining operational control of communications for DMC Police Authority. This role involves operating various sophisticated technology equipment, monitoring life safety systems, and processing and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls. The Dispatcher is required to perform these duties while demonstrating optimal customer service skills.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills (including proper grammar and spelling for report writing).
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the public professionally.
  • Ability to handle both common and crisis situations calmly and efficiently.
  • Ability to use sound and independent judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong active listening skills.
  • Ability to frequently prepare written reports and provide quality customer service.
  • Must meet all physical requirements of the job, which may include an annual physical.
  • Must be able to perform duties wearing personal protective equipment (Masks, gowns, security-related equipment, etc.) as required.

  • Emergency Management credentials FEMA 300, 400, 700.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and responding to life safety systems including fire panel alarms, CCTV systems, infant abduction systems, and access control.
  • Maintaining knowledge of individual hospital and exterior campus layouts.
  • Receiving emergency and non-emergency calls and accurately recording significant information.
  • Prioritizing calls based on urgency and importance.
  • Using radio, phone, or computer systems to dispatch Police Authority Officers to respond to situations.
  • Coordinating with police, fire departments, and other emergency response teams to ensure appropriate responses to emergencies.
  • Understanding of police and fire response 911 notifications.
  • Reporting unusual activities to security staff for further investigation or action.
  • Tracking inquiries, reports, and requests using manual or electronic logs.
  • Providing exceptional customer service to staff, patients, visitors, and physicians.
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of all security orders, written and oral, pertaining to assigned duties, as well as working knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Possessing Emergency Management credentials FEMA 300, 400, 700.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
