About The Position

This part-time contractual, entry-level position at Eastern Shore Hospital Center involves the custody, care, security, and safety of forensic patients and employees. Employees may be assigned duties involving operation of a motor vehicle, including large vans used to transport patients. Employees must complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission during their probationary period if they have not already done so. The role also requires providing the facility with a telephone number where the employee can be reached and is subject to substance abuse testing.

Requirements

• High school diploma or a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education.
• No prior experience required.
• For assigned driving duties, possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in Maryland; employees assigned to operate large vans must obtain the appropriate class of Maryland driver's license.
• Meet correctional officer training selection standards, including U.S. citizenship or resident alien status, being at least 21 years of age, a completed background investigation, an oral interview, and a physical examination.
• Provide the facility with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
• Subject to substance abuse testing under the applicable Maryland regulation.

Responsibilities

• Provide custody, care, security, and safety for forensic patients and employees.
• Operate a motor vehicle when assigned duties require it; some employees may operate large vans to transport patients.
• Complete required Correctional Training Commission training during the probationary period if not already completed.

Benefits

• Eligible contractual employees working at least 30 hours per week or an average of 130 hours per month may receive subsidized medical and prescription coverage for themselves and eligible dependents; the employee pays 25% of premiums and the State subsidizes the remaining 75%.
• Dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance may be elected at the employee's expense.
• Contractual employees may receive leave at a rate of one hour per 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per calendar year.
