About The Position

The Security Associate is a boots-on-the-ground member of Carvana’s Safe & Secure team, responsible for protecting associates, customers, vehicles, and site operations. The role includes manning site gates, welcoming and assisting associates, vendors, and visitors, monitoring cameras and intrusion alerts, enforcing access procedures, tracking vehicle movement, conducting safety audits, and identifying and responding to hazards. Associates partner with Inspection Center and Logistics teams, provide accurate operational reports to Safe & Secure leadership, and help keep the site operating safely in all weather conditions. The position involves extensive walking and working in varied environmental conditions, including cold, heat, noise, wet conditions, and possible vehicle-maintenance fumes or odors. This is a full-time hourly position with an indicated schedule of Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.; open availability is highly preferred. The facility operates 24/7, and gates must be manned at all times. The role reports to a Safe & Secure Functional Lead or Manager.

Requirements

1–2 years of experience in a customer service environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated sound decision-making in a complex, fast-moving environment.
Ability to build strong working relationships and connect with people quickly.
Ability to organize, plan, and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
Ability to handle conflict in a positive, productive manner.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds independently and carry and transport up to 60 pounds up to 20 feet.
Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently stretch, reach, walk, stoop, push, and/or pull.
Excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity.
Ability to use required safety equipment and protective garments.
Ability to drive frequently and perform computer data entry.
Must adhere to regular and predictable attendance.
Must pass a complete background check.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with CCTV, RFID, card access, or other Safe & Secure technology.
Previous experience supporting an OSHA or safety team program.
Experience with crisis prevention and/or response plans.

Responsibilities

Provide service-first interactions and represent Carvana at the gate for associates, vendors, and visitors.
Communicate clearly, calmly, and actively listen.
Use the Unified Security Platform to monitor live cameras, review footage, and investigate intrusion alerts.
Operate the gate using the Safe & Secure App and RFID technology, enforcing ingress and egress procedures.
Manage and document vehicle movement through Inspection Center entrance and exit gates.
Respond to emergencies using established protocols; obtain first aid, CPR, and AED training and certification.
Maintain site operations in varying weather, including snow removal and heat-safety protocols.
Identify environmental hazards, conduct safety audits, and reinforce safe practices.
Scan vehicles using mobile rover technology and manual handheld scanners to support inventory tracking and operational flow.
Walk the site, including restricted or hard-to-access areas of the lot.
Research vehicle locations and provide detailed reports to leadership.
De-escalate conflict and work collaboratively with site partners.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
