About The Position

The Secretary II position with Canton City Schools involves a variety of administrative and clerical duties within a school setting. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to handle confidential information, and excellent public relations capabilities. The secretary will interact with students, staff, and visitors, manage supplies, perform bookkeeping tasks, and maintain various records and systems. A key aspect of this role is to serve as a responsible role model for students, adhering to strict ethical and legal standards, including a background check for felony convictions and substance abuse.

Requirements

  • Applicants MUST submit a copy of a valid driver's license or other photo ID along with their application and any other pertinent documentation.
  • Applicants must be a U. S. Citizen or have a permanent resident card.
  • Applicants must be a High School graduate or possess a G.E.D.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Applicants must have no felony convictions.
  • Applicants must type 45 WPM accurately.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Must possess good public relation skills.
  • Must be honest, cooperate with others and work as a team member.
  • Must be able to demonstrate that they are responsible to the community by setting an appropriate example to the students.
  • Must NOT have been convicted of a felony in this, or any other state, nor may they be habitual abusers of alcohol or drugs.
  • Background check required through the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Takes and transcribes dictation of various types, including correspondence, reports, notices, and recommendations.
  • Obtains, gathers, and organizes pertinent data as needed and puts it into usable form.
  • Maintains a regular filing system and processes incoming correspondence in a prescribed manner.
  • Places and receives telephone calls in a courteous manner.
  • Orders and maintains supplies as needed.
  • Keeps typewriter, computer, and other equipment clean.
  • Types a variety of material, such as letters, reports, and memos.
  • Performs bookkeeping tasks associated with the position.
  • Maintains a schedule of appointments and makes arrangements for conferences and interviews.
  • Greets all visitors courteously and arranges for their comfort.
  • Screens unexpected callers in accordance with established practices.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge about system software.
  • Deals effectively with the age level of children in the building to which they are assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.
