About The Position

The Secondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher (grades 6-12) is responsible for the instruction of designated CTE content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school (grade 6-12). All district employees must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance, support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan, engage in civility, respect, and professionalism, and maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform their duties. The position requires the ability to design and implement appropriate instruction, create a positive educational climate, deliver relevant and rigorous lessons, utilize diverse teaching practices, observe and evaluate student performance, manage student behavior, communicate with parents and staff, ensure student health and safety, maintain confidential records, and maintain appropriate certifications and professional development hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or District Certificate required.
  • Eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required.
  • Eligibility for District Certificate required, including one of the following: Related bachelor’s degree with two (2) years related experience, Related AA/AS degree with four (4) years related experience, One (1) year of technical training with five years of verifiable experience, or Six (6) years of in-field verified work experience.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets all kinds of documents.
  • Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community.
  • Writes speeches and effectively presents to managers, the public, and school board.
  • Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or formal training in content area preferred.
  • Florida Professional Educator Certificate preferred.
  • Industry certification or state license required when applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
  • Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
  • Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors student assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
  • Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
  • Engages with local business and community to partners with the CTE program.
  • Participates as local chapter advisor for the appropriate Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO).
  • Engages in continuous improvement and professional development, including earning appropriate industry certifications.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
