Seasonal Transportation Technician I - Saratoga Springs
About The Position
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Region Three is hiring a Seasonal Transportation Technician I to support operations at its Saratoga Springs Maintenance Station. The position is seasonal and time-limited, with a salary range of $22.44–$24.79 depending on experience. Benefits are not provided. Applicants must pass a criminal history check and a pre-employment drug test; random drug testing may occur after hire. The technician operates heavy equipment and performs specialized roadway maintenance, including snow and ice removal, repairs to roadway features, equipment inspection and maintenance, and assistance with urgent roadway issues and storm response. The role requires a current Class A CDL upon hire, the ability to report to the station within 30 minutes during call-outs, and willingness to work nights and be on-call during severe weather and winter storms. The work involves outdoor conditions in all weather and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Requirements
- Possess a current Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) upon hire.
- Be able to report to the Saratoga Springs Maintenance Station within 30 minutes during call-outs.
- Be willing to work nights, be on-call, and respond promptly during severe weather and winter storms.
- Be able to lift 50 pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Be dependable, motivated, safety-minded, and able to work as a team player.
Nice To Haves
- Previous UDOT, heavy roadway maintenance, or highway construction experience.
- Experience operating heavy equipment and CDL vehicles.
- Experience with commercial snow removal and winter driving operations.
Responsibilities
- Clear state roadways of snow and ice using snowplows, graders, blowers, and other specialized heavy equipment.
- Repair traffic signs, fences, guardrails, and other roadway features.
- Safely operate, inspect, and maintain CDL-restricted vehicles, tools, and heavy equipment.
- Assist with urgent roadway issues and storm response as needed.
