About The Position

Under general supervision, performs entry-level and semi-skilled maintenance and general labor tasks in the Parks & Recreation Division, Code Enforcement, Street Division, or Vehicle Maintenance. Seasonal Maintenance Workers help ensure the City’s cemeteries, parks, and streets are attractive, orderly, and healthy. Work includes routine groundskeeping, general maintenance, and operating light equipment as directed.

Requirements

• Be at least 16 years of age.
• Provide all documents and permits required by state and federal law.
• Have knowledge of routine manual labor work methods.
• Be able to understand and follow instructions.
• Be able to perform indoor and/or outdoor work for extended periods under varying and possibly adverse weather conditions.
• Pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Be able to operate and maintain maintenance equipment as required by the position.
• Use hand and small power tools skillfully and safely under varying work conditions.
• Perform strenuous physical work.
• Read, understand, and follow safety rules and regulations.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and coworkers.
• Deal courteously and tactfully with the general public.
• Use common landscaping equipment, fuels, and cleaning solutions skillfully and safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual grounds-maintenance labor at city cemeteries, parks, and vacant lots.
• Perform outdoor and indoor maintenance tasks, including sweeping, raking, picking up trash from grounds and roadsides, and shoveling and spreading mulch, gravel, and soil.
• Paint buildings and park equipment.
• Mow, edge, and trim lawns; trim trees and plants.
• Dig burial plots and ditches as needed.
• Operate mowers, gas-powered trimmers and blowers, chainsaws, vacuums, and other small power tools.
• For Vehicle Maintenance assignments, pick up and deliver equipment, materials, parts, and supplies as required.
