The National Park Service is hiring a seasonal Maintenance Worker. Typical seasonal entry-on-duty is April–May, though timing may vary due to weather, project needs, or funding. This is a temporary seasonal appointment, generally not to exceed 1,039 hours, with possible appointments not to exceed 1,560 hours depending on the park and program. The appointment is expected to end when the season’s work is complete, and employment may end earlier due to funding, project needs, performance, or other considerations. The worker uses materials, tools, and equipment to maintain and repair structures and grounds. Duties include minor carpentry, routine maintenance at sites and visitor facilities, cleaning restrooms, making minor repairs, and transporting supplies and materials. Other work may include painting, masonry, roofing, welding, or assisting higher-grade workers with utility-system maintenance. Work takes place indoors and outdoors, sometimes amid dirt, spray, fumes, and inclement weather. The worker may need to wear heavy or uncomfortable protective equipment and clothing, work from ladders, scaffolds, or platforms, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions. The position may require on-call work, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, shift work, and overnight travel. Government housing may be available but is not guaranteed, and occupancy of government quarters may be required. The worker must wear a uniform; a uniform allowance will be provided.
