About The Position

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, is recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions at Savage Highlands State Park for the Fall 2026 to Spring 2027 season. Working titles include Housekeeping/Custodial Worker, Maintenance Worker, and Park Ranger. Applicants must indicate the position or positions of interest on the Supplemental Questionnaire. The position is located at 1600 Mount Aetna Road, Frostburg, Maryland, serving Allegany and Garrett counties. The stated salary is $17.41 or more per hour.

Minimum qualifications are 40 hours of customer service or maintenance experience, including qualifying professional or volunteer experience in retail, service, administrative, or similar fields. No education is required. At least six months of experience in park operations at a park location is preferred. Some assigned duties may require operating a motor vehicle, UTV, or golf cart; employees assigned those duties must hold a valid Maryland driver's license and have five or fewer points on their current driving record. A provisional driver's license is not accepted for those duties.

Applicants selected for employment may undergo background checks, which may include employment references, education verification, driving records when driving is required, and criminal history checks with fingerprinting. Continued employment, where applicable, depends on the results. Contractual employees who meet the stated hours and eligibility conditions may qualify for subsidized health coverage. Requirements

• For duties requiring operation of a motor vehicle, UTV, or golf cart, a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license and five points or fewer on the current driving record are required; provisional licenses are not accepted for these duties.

Benefits

• Eligible contractual employees working 30 or more hours per week, or an average of 130 hours per month, may receive subsidized medical and prescription coverage for themselves and enrolled dependents. Employees pay 25% of premiums and the State of Maryland subsidizes the remaining 75%.
• Eligible employees may elect dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, paying the full premiums for these benefits.
• Contractual leave may be granted at one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per calendar year.
