About The Position

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, is recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions at Deep Creek Lake State Park for the Fall 2026 to Spring 2027 season. The working titles include Maintenance Worker, Maintenance Worker Lead, and Naturalist. Applicants must indicate their position(s) of interest on the Supplemental Questionnaire. The positions are located at 898 State Park Road, Swanton, Maryland 21561, in Garrett County. The listed salary is $17.41 or more per hour. Employees may be assigned duties requiring operation of a motor vehicle, UTV, or golf cart; those assigned such duties must hold a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license and have five or fewer points on their driving record. A provisional driver’s license will not be accepted. Selected applicants may be subject to employment, education, driving-record, and criminal-history checks, including fingerprinting.

Requirements

• At least 40 hours of customer service or maintenance experience; qualifying experience may include professional or volunteer work in retail, the service industry, administrative roles, or similar fields.
• Applicants must provide complete and accurate information about education and experience related to the position’s essential functions.
• If assigned duties requiring vehicle operation, must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license with five points or fewer on the current driving record; provisional licenses are not accepted.
• Employment may be contingent on satisfactory employment reference, education, driving-record, and criminal-history checks, as applicable.

Nice To Haves

• At least six months of experience working in a park location performing park operations.

Benefits

• Contractual employees who meet eligibility requirements may receive subsidized health benefits for themselves and enrolled dependents; the employee pays 25% of medical and prescription premiums and the State subsidizes the remaining 75%.
• Eligible contractual employees may elect dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, paying the full premiums.
• Leave may be granted at one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per calendar year.
