About The Position

Unload grain and grain by-products from trucks. This role involves opening gates and doors on grain trucks using large hand tools, operating various tools such as brooms, shovels, hammers, and sledgehammers, and lifting and carrying heavy buckets. The position requires maintaining a clean and safe work environment and facility, which includes sweeping and blowing down areas with compressed air. The worker must be able to distinguish different grain types and report any abnormalities to supervision. This role is physically demanding, dirty, and exposed to outside elements, requiring the ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding. The worker will follow instructions from supervision and adhere to all safety rules and procedures. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean work area and facility, general maintenance, and assisting in all areas of the facility as needed. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as a hard hat, safety glasses, hi-visibility clothing, safety boots, and at times gloves, hearing protection, and dust masks must be worn.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the use of hand tools, power tools, chain falls, cable pullers (come-alongs), grinders, drill presses, etc.
  • Must be able to work over water on grain barges in wet conditions, handling lines and opening/closing barge lids
  • Must have ability to work from ladders and scaffolds at heights at times with personal fall protection
  • Be able to lift and carry a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in dusty conditions
  • Must be able to work frequently in inclement weather including rain, ice, wind and the heat
  • Must be aware and attentive to surroundings which may include automatic starting conveyors belts, bucket elevators, drag chain and other moving machinery
  • Must be able to climb, bend, kneel, squat, and crawl occasionally and stand and walk for extended periods of time

  • Follow all LDC safety rules and procedures
  • Responsible for a clean work area, clean facility and general maintenance
  • Assist in all areas of the facility as needed
