About The Position

Partners with the Meat and Seafood Manager to operate the department, encompassing financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, and delegation of tasks. This role ensures the department provides an exceptional customer shopping experience with the highest level of service and product knowledge. The Seafood Assistant Manager also provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative work environment.

Requirements

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail, or grocery experience required.
  • Must complete and maintain any required food and work safety trainings/certifications.
  • Works a schedule that is informed by the needs of the business and may be subject to change seasonally or due to varying staffing needs.
  • Demonstrates reliable and predictable attendance, in accordance with attendance policy and all applicable laws.
  • Shifts tasks as priorities and circumstances change based on needs and conditions of department and whole store as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred.
  • Butcher shop, meat fabrication, or seafood industry experience acceptable.
  • Prior seafood cutting / fabrication experience highly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Entry to mid-level proficiency with MS Office.
  • Working knowledge with POS, inventory, or other retail-specific software preferred.
  • Financial acumen regarding sales and margin preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with the department manager to operate all areas of the department, prioritizing and delegating tasks and production.
  • Ensures consistency of department conditions, including stocking, rotation, facing, and adherence to merchandising standards and category schematics.
  • Partners with the department manager to ensure satisfactory in-stock conditions and maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Orders product according to business needs and maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve business goals.
  • Ensures all seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed to company standards.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products for attractive presentations, highlighting featured, unique, or seasonal items.
  • Implements plans for weekly ads, events, and holidays.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Coordinates with the Operations department to conduct in-store tastings.
  • Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise, checking quality, count, and condition, and communicating any issues to management and the merchandising team.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Wraps, weighs, and prices seafood products according to department policy.
  • Assists customers with product selection, shares product knowledge, and makes recommendations based on customer needs.
  • Ensures department compliance with company organic standards.
  • Supports the department manager and store leadership in completing periodic inventory.
  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task and manage own time, adjusting priorities, productivity, and efficiency based on department and store needs.
  • Supports effective communication systems within the department and store.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
