About The Position

The SDE-3 Backend will be part of Sun King’s Digitization and Automation team, designing, developing, and implementing intelligent, technology-enabled solutions to address a range of business problems. The role calls for strong coding skills, an affinity for technology and automation, and curiosity about product advances. The position is based in India and is remote.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience with Java and Python.
• Hands-on expertise with frameworks such as Spring Boot and Django or FastAPI.
• Expertise in AWS, with working experience in Lambda, SQS, S3, EC2 (Linux-based VMs), load balancers, and RDS.
• Expertise in SQL, including query plans, indexing, locking, primary-replica architecture, and schema changes on live tables.
• Prior experience working with Redis.
• Experience with microservices and distributed, event-driven system design, including webhooks, queues, and third-party API integrations.
• Observability experience with Grafana and Prometheus/Loki, or an equivalent stack.
• Experience running Docker in production, including images, Compose, and runtime configurations.
• Working experience with message brokers and event-streaming systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor in day-to-day development.

Responsibilities

• Lead incident root cause analyses, reasoning about changes against a baseline rather than relying on snapshots.
• Write design documents and architecture maps.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Own systems after launch, including on-call responsibilities, runbooks, and cost considerations.
• Design and build applications and systems from wireframes and product requirements documents.
• Identify and fix bottlenecks and bugs according to operational requirements.
• Design and develop logical and physical data models that meet application requirements.
• Build systems with attention to scalability, performance, service robustness, and cost trade-offs.
• Create prototypes and proofs of concept for iterative development.
• Take end-to-end ownership of projects and their development cycle.
• Use AI coding assistants in daily development, exercising judgment to review and test generated code and take ownership of it.
