About The Position

The University of Miami is hiring a full-time Scientist for the Sylvester Myeloma Institute in Miami, Florida. This is a 100% research-based position with no clinical responsibilities or patient care. The Scientist will support the iStopMM–Miami program, a collaborative initiative building on Iceland’s iStopMM population-screening study. The program will investigate biological patterns associated with stable myeloma precursor disease and progression to multiple myeloma by integrating longitudinal clinical data and biospecimens with molecular, immune, imaging, and computational analyses. It will also conduct interventional studies to translate improved risk prediction into individualized prevention and early-treatment strategies. The successful candidate will help design and launch the screening and follow-up program, develop collaborative translational studies, and connect biological discoveries with precision-interception trials. The role is intended for a physician-scientist with expertise in population screening, precursor disease, longitudinal clinical research, and hematologic malignancies, particularly multiple myeloma. Experience with the Icelandic iStopMM study or an equivalent program is especially valuable. The position is a one-year, 100% gift-funded appointment and reports to Dr. C. Ola Landgren, Chief of the Sylvester Myeloma Institute and Lead Principal Investigator for the planned study. At the University-wide level, the Scientist supports research goals through complex experiments and investigations; contributes to the scientific community and the University’s reputation; and may oversee research staff, produce scientific and technical publications, assist with staff training, plan and analyze experiments, prepare proposals, ensure compliance, keep current with relevant developments, and present findings at conferences. Specific duties may vary according to departmental needs.

  • Doctorate degree (PhD) required under the core qualifications.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in precursor screening studies.
  • Specialist training in hematologic malignancies, with a focus on multiple myeloma and its precursor disease.
  • Expertise in population screening, myeloma precursor disease, and longitudinal clinical research.
  • Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a team environment.
  • Proficiency with office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
