About The Position

Join CHA Consulting, Inc. as a Scientist V – Hazardous Building Materials in Albany, NY. This role serves as a technical lead for projects involving hazardous building materials, guiding project execution from planning through delivery. You will contribute to solutions that support infrastructure, compliance, and sustainability initiatives across diverse markets, balancing regulatory demands, environmental stewardship, and real-world development. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field required
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel required
  • Ability to read architectural renovation and demolition drawings with knowledge of building systems (HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, insulation, and building materials)
  • Proficient theoretical scientific knowledge and ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as time-management skills
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • NYSDOL Certified Asbestos Building Inspector and Asbestos Project Designer required

Nice To Haves

  • NYSDOL Certified Asbestos Project Monitor, USEPA Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor, and/or NYSDOL Article 32 Mold Assessor preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of major environmental projects focused on asbestos and hazardous building materials abatement—from concept through completion—by planning, scheduling, and coordinating detailed project phases
  • Prepare abatement plans and related technical specifications in compliance with OSHA, EPA, AHERA, NESHAP, TSCA, ICR 56, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations for a variety of clients
  • Guide and mentor junior to mid-level scientists, fostering growth and technical excellence while ensuring compliance with client standards and providing quality control
  • Oversee the preparation of large, complex environmental data sets, technical reports, and design tasks for environmental projects
  • Lead the development of assessment reports and other reporting elements, as well as external presentations for clients, the public, and regulatory agencies
  • Assist with proposal development, including cost estimates and business development initiatives
