About The Position

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Section Manager - Hazardous Building Materials to join their Environmental Team in Albany, NY. This role involves leading and developing a high-performing team, providing direction across projects and programs, and cultivating a supportive, results-driven environment. The position focuses on guiding teams and delivering meaningful impact in complex hazardous building materials programs, strengthening team capabilities while delivering compliant solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field required
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel required
  • Ability to read architectural renovation and demolition drawings with knowledge of building systems (HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, insulation, and building materials)
  • Proficient theoretical scientific knowledge and ability to work in a team environment
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • NYSDOL Certified Asbestos Building Inspector and Asbestos Project Designer required
  • Ability to work in the field under various weather conditions and physically navigate diverse environments
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to guide and motivate team activity and resolve issues with urgency
  • An articulate and persuasive communicator, both one-on-one and in front of large groups

Nice To Haves

  • previous project or team management experience preferred
  • NYSDOL Certified Asbestos Project Monitor, USEPA Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor, and/or NYSDOL Article 32 Mold Assessor preferred
  • Experience with project budgeting preferred
  • basic understanding of accounting processes

Responsibilities

  • Organize, direct, and coordinate activities related to environmental projects focused on asbestos and hazardous materials abatement from initial assessment through planning and design
  • Prepare abatement plans and related technical specifications in compliance with OSHA, EPA, AHERA, NESHAP, TSCA, ICR 56, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Lead and develop environmental staff by mentoring, motivating, and managing talent at all levels, while collaborating with leadership to drive high performance, project success, and utilization goals
  • Effectively manage project budgets, scope, and schedules to deliver successful outcomes for critical environmental initiatives
  • Engage with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met and expectations are exceeded throughout each phase
  • Lead the development of assessment reports and other reporting elements, as well as proposal development, cost estimating, and business development initiatives
