Scientist, Proteomics

Inotiv•Nashville, TN

About The Position

The Scientist I, Proteomics conducts targeted and global proteomic bioanalytical studies that support drug discovery, biomarker, and translational research programs. Working under the guidance of senior proteomics staff, the scientist performs hands-on sample preparation, LC-MS/MS analysis, and data processing; contributes to development and qualification of proteomic assays; and supports communication of results to Study Directors and Sponsors. The role offers an early-career scientist the opportunity to develop technical and scientific expertise in a collaborative, cross-functional drug discovery environment. The position contributes proteomics expertise to cross-functional teams within Inotiv’s Discovery & Translational Sciences Division, collaborating with pharmacology and pathology groups. It supports biomarker discovery, target validation, translational research, and evaluation of new mass spectrometry technologies and workflows. The scientist performs and helps design proteomics studies, assists with method development and validation, analyzes datasets, checks data quality, prepares summaries and report sections, and troubleshoots methods and assays. The role also involves drafting and revising SOPs, contributing to scientific communications, sharing technical knowledge, and following GLP, SOP, safety, confidentiality, and documentation requirements. The position is normally performed in an interior office or laboratory environment. Work may involve hazardous materials and situations requiring extensive safety precautions and protective equipment. The role requires frequent walking, sitting or standing for extended periods, carrying and lifting up to 50 pounds, reaching, repetitive hand movements, and manual dexterity to operate laboratory equipment and computers. Candidates must be able to wear required gloves, masks or respirators, and safety glasses. Immunization against Hepatitis B and/or other diseases may be required due to exposure to hazardous biological materials.

  • Experience with chromatographic systems used for proteomic analysis.
  • Experience with proteomic data analysis software for protein and peptide identification and quantitation.
  • Understanding of bioanalytical processes, including sample preparation, calibration, quality control, instrument operation and troubleshooting, method development, data processing, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with analytical testing needs in drug discovery, biomarker verification, and/or clinical or translational proteomics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn and apply new proteomic techniques to client and program needs.
  • Familiarity with GMP, GLP, or GCP regulations and willingness to apply these practices in daily work.
  • Strong scientific writing skills for data summaries, reports, and manuscripts.
  • Ability to meet the role’s physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent walking, sitting or standing for extended periods, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to wear latex or nitrile gloves, a dust mask or respirator, and safety glasses as required.
  • Manual dexterity to operate laboratory equipment, a calculator, and a computer; ability to read and interpret test results and instrument specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to three years of relevant industry experience, such as in a CRO, biotech, or pharmaceutical setting, or postdoctoral training in proteomics or a related field.
  • Experience in a regulated laboratory.
  • Peer-reviewed publications, posters, or presentations in proteomics or mass spectrometry.
  • Experience with Skyline, FragPipe, Proteome Discoverer, or DIA-NN.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute proteomics expertise to cross-functional project teams supporting biomarker discovery, target validation, and translational research programs.
