About The Position

Performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analysis to provide data for use in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role requires the ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. The scientist must be able to generalize, evaluate or make decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria, and follow instructions exactly. The position involves bending, walking, standing for long periods of time, and lifting of up to 35 lbs. Manual dexterity, visual acuity, and color vision are essential. The scientist must be able to handle all types of biological and physical specimens using proper blood and body fluid precautions. Duties include performing tests skillfully and accurately using approved methodologies and techniques, and in compliance with laboratory policies. Prioritizing work according to protocol, and efficiently performing procedures in a timely and organized manner within the established laboratory turn around times is crucial. The scientist must recognize the interdependency of tests and possess knowledge of physiological conditions affecting test results. Demonstrating the ability to assess problems, synthesize alternatives, determine and implement acceptable solutions using sound judgment is required. Consultation with a supervisor is necessary if a problem is above the Technologist’s expected level of expertise. The role also involves performing, recording, and monitoring internal and external quality control procedures according to the specifications and time schedules for that department and documenting all corrective action taken. Performing and documenting routine (and complex as assigned) preventative maintenance on equipment as designated according to specified procedures and time frames and keeping equipment clean and in good working order is also part of the responsibilities. Demonstrating and ensuring the practice of safe infection control procedures according to laboratory and hospital procedures and policies is mandatory. All other tasks/responsibilities as necessary will also be performed.

Requirements

  • Doctor, Master or Bachelor of Science degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or Medical Technology or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must meet CLIA requirements for high complexity testing personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing preferred.
