About The Position

Medical Lab Scientists perform various tests to analyze blood, body fluids, and tissues as ordered by Healthcare personnel. Under the general supervision of departmental section supervisors and/or lead techs, they precisely and accurately order, perform, and evaluate technical procedures in the different subsections of the clinical laboratory department. They properly collect blood specimens ensuring patient safety and consistency with age-specific considerations for all patients, neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, as well as employees. They receive, process, and distribute specimens appropriately and in a timely manner. They properly store specimens for further testing, as needed. They assist with the training of new employees and students. They maintain equipment and supply inventory. They adhere to laboratory and hospital policies (i.e., attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, and patient confidentiality) and procedures. They maintain knowledge and practice current regulatory guidelines. They prepare and participate in processes relating to regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CAP, and AABB. They follow best practices for infection control in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

  • Adherence to laboratory and hospital policies (i.e., attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, and patient confidentiality) and procedures.
  • Maintenance of knowledge and practices of current regulatory guidelines.
  • Preparation and participation in processes relating to regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CAP and AABB.
  • Following best practice for infection control in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
