About The Position

Vitalant is expanding its Transfusion Services Team in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area and is seeking Medical Lab Generalists and Medical Lab Scientists/Medical Lab Technicians. This role offers the opportunity to make a vital impact in a mission-led, values-driven, customer-focused organization. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will perform high complexity testing in immunohematology, including antibody identification, antigen typing, absorptions, elution, and cross match. You will also review and report test results, participate in investigative studies, and contribute to quality control, preventative maintenance, and validations. The role provides coaching, encouragement, and support from managers invested in your career and success. Vitalant is one of the nation's largest nonprofit blood and biotherapies healthcare organizations, providing hospitals and patients across the U.S. a safe blood supply, specialized laboratory services, transfusion medicine expertise, and world-renowned research.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in medical Lab Technology (for Medical Lab Technician)
  • Certification as Medical Lab Technician required (for Medical Lab Technician)
  • Bachelor's degree in a CLIA approved program (Biology, chemistry, medical science etc.) required (for Medical Lab Generalist)
  • Bachelor's degree in medical Lab Science or MLS certification required (for Medical Lab Scientist I)
  • Certification as MLS required within 6 months of employment (for Medical Lab Scientist I)
  • MLS/BB certification required (for Medical Lab Scientist II and III)
  • 2 years in a clinical laboratory setting required (for Medical Lab Scientist II)
  • 3 years lab experience with 1-year IRL required (for Medical Lab Scientist III)
  • 2 years lead/charge experience required (for Medical Lab Scientist III)

Nice To Haves

  • SBB certification preferred (for Medical Lab Scientist III)

Responsibilities
