Scientist 3 - Translational Medicine

Roche•South San Francisco, CA
•$100,400 - $186,400•Onsite

About The Position

Genentech’s Translational Medicine OMNI team supports research and development across Ophthalmology, Metabolism, Neuroscience, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases. It develops and implements translational research and biomarker strategies to identify disease pathways, validate mechanisms of action, and support clinical trial success. The Scientist 3 will join Genentech’s Translational Medicine team on-site at the South San Francisco campus. The role partners with cross-functional R&D teams to advance translational research for therapeutic targets and provide biomarker support for glaucoma neuroprotection programs throughout drug development. It combines computational analysis of high-dimensional datasets with hands-on laboratory work to validate findings and establish foundational science in ophthalmic drug development. The role includes analyzing clinical and preclinical data, designing and conducting experiments in disease-relevant human cell models, coordinating exploratory clinical studies, and developing custom biomarker assays. The scientist will collaborate with internal and external partners and communicate findings through reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biological Sciences, such as neuroscience, immunology, cell biology, or a related field, with 0–4 years of relevant post-graduate experience; candidates without a PhD may be considered if they have an equivalent track record of rigorous scientific experience.
  • Track record of conducting both wet-lab experiments and bioinformatic analyses to answer complex biological questions, demonstrated by a strong peer-reviewed publication record.
  • Wet-lab expertise in preclinical or clinical sample analysis and molecular biology techniques, including cell culture, ELISA, qPCR, and NGS/transcriptomics.
  • Hands-on programming experience in R or Python and proficiency applying biostatistical and bioinformatics methods to high-dimensional datasets.
  • Scientific independence, strong organizational and teamwork skills, scientific curiosity, and exceptional communication abilities.
  • Passion for translating science into therapies.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical or translational experience in retinal biology is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities
