Scientist 3 Translational Medicine (Cardiovascular and Metabolism)

Genentech•Daly City, CA
•$100,400 - $186,400•Onsite

About The Position

Genentech’s Translational Medicine OMNI (TM OMNI) Department supports the R&D portfolio in Ophthalmology, Metabolism, Neuroscience, and Immunology. The department develops and implements biomarker strategies to study disease pathways, confirm therapeutic mechanisms of action, improve clinical-trial efficiency and success, and conduct foundational clinical translational research to identify molecular and cellular disease pathways and novel targets and biomarkers. The Scientist 3 will join Genentech’s Translational Medicine team at the South San Francisco campus, collaborating with R&D scientists to provide biomarker support for cardiovascular and metabolism (CVM) programs across stages of drug development and generate insights for future CVM drug targets. The role combines data science with wet-lab research: analyzing and interpreting -Omics datasets while developing assays and experiments to follow up on data-driven insights. It is a hands-on role in an interdisciplinary drug-development environment.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biological Sciences.
  • 0–6 years of experience in a postdoctoral or industry setting, with wet-lab and bioinformatics experience demonstrated in high-impact publications.
  • Experience in and deep technical understanding of sample collection and processing, and cellular or molecular laboratory techniques. Examples include cell culture, primary cell isolation from tissues, immunostaining, molecular biology, ELISA, western blot, genomic sequencing, qRT-PCR, and/or transcriptomics.
  • Programming experience in R or Python sufficient to run differential-expression pipelines, perform pathway-enrichment analysis, and generate compelling figures.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate independence in developing hypotheses, designing experiments or studies, developing analysis plans, and interpreting and presenting results.
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and passion for drug discovery and development.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, time-management, and organizational skills, and ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with human or clinical research.
  • Deep understanding of metabolism or metabolic diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and conduct experiments using disease-relevant in vitro human cell models.
  • Develop, qualify, and validate custom assays, such as ELISA, Simoa, and NULISA, for disease-oriented translational research and pipeline programs; this work goes beyond running commercial assay kits.
  • Analyze -Omics datasets, including proteomics, metabolomics, and RNA sequencing, from clinical and preclinical samples to discover candidate biomarkers and targets.
  • Communicate findings through written reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with other gRED departments and external partners.
  • Develop hypotheses, design experiments and studies, develop analysis plans, and interpret and present results.

Benefits

  • A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
  • The position qualifies for company benefits, detailed at a link provided in the posting.
