About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Scientist 1 to join their collaborative team, contributing to the planning, management, and execution of various project scopes. This role is primarily field-based, involving travel to work sites throughout Alaska and potentially out of state during winter months. Office-based tasks include field work planning and report writing. The position offers diverse responsibilities and opportunities to contribute to environmental projects.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of experience in the environmental industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a larger team and independently.
  • Ability to oversee or conduct scopes of work.
  • Ability to manage personal work schedule.
  • Ability to ensure strict adherence to health and safety requirements.
  • Strong focus on health and safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working around heavy equipment
  • Experience with environmental water, soil, and air sampling
  • Experience troubleshooting system or equipment issues
  • Knowledge of local and federal environmental regulations
  • Previous experience with environmental sampling
  • Previous experience with technical report writing
  • Previous experience with data evaluation
  • Familiarity with federal and/or state environmental regulations
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (with 8-hour annual refresher, if applicable)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct groundwater and soil sample collection.
  • Install groundwater monitoring wells and soil borings.
  • Perform well abandonment.
  • Operate and maintain remedial systems.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulators on job sites.
  • Communicate effectively with the project team.
  • Conduct, collect, and record environmental data following standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in developing conceptual site models.
  • Assist in delineating the nature and extent of contamination.
  • Contribute to the design, modification, or optimization of site remedies.
  • Assist the project team in writing technical reports.
  • Help organize and plan field events, equipment rentals, and schedule subcontractors.
