About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Scientist 1 to join their team. This role is crucial for a collaborative team, contributing to the planning, management, and execution of various project scopes. The position is primarily field-based, with expected travel to work sites throughout Alaska and potential out-of-state travel during winter months. Office-based tasks will include field work planning and report writing. This role offers a diverse mix of responsibilities, providing opportunities to contribute meaningfully to a variety of environmental projects.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of experience in the environmental industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Detail oriented with excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a larger team and while working independently
  • Ability to oversee or conduct scopes of work
  • Ability to manage personal work schedule
  • Ensuring strict adherence to health and safety requirements
  • Strong focus on health and safety
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working around heavy equipment
  • Environmental water, soil, and air sampling
  • Troubleshooting system or equipment issues
  • Knowledge of local and federal environmental regulations
  • Previous experience with environmental sampling
  • Previous experience with technical report writing
  • Previous experience with data evaluation
  • Familiarity with federal and/or state environmental regulations
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (with 8-hour annual refresher, if applicable)

Responsibilities

  • Groundwater and soil sample collection
  • Installation of groundwater monitoring wells and soil borings
  • Well abandonment
  • Remedial system operations and maintenance
  • Other field-based tasks
  • Ensuring adherence to safety protocols and procedures
  • Communicating effectively with clients, stakeholders or regulators while on job sites
  • Effective communications with the project team
  • Following standard operating procedures to conduct, collect, and record environmental data from sites in support of conceptual site model development, delineation of the nature and extent of contamination
  • Contributing to the design, modification, or optimization of site remedies
  • Assisting the project team to write technical reports
  • Help organizing and planning field events, equipment rentals, and scheduling subcontractors
