About The Position

The School to Registered Apprenticeship Program (STRAP 1) at Idaho Forest Group (IFG) is designed for high school students interested in gaining practical experience in a production environment. This program allows students to work part-time while continuing their education, providing them with valuable skills and insights into the manufacturing industry. Participants will learn safety procedures, mechanical aptitude, and essential job functions under the guidance of mentors and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Junior or Senior year of high school.
  • 16 or 17 years old.
  • Enrolled in a qualified Career and Technical Education class.
  • Maintain passing grades and avoid excessive absenteeism at school.
  • Obtain approval from parents through a signed agreement.
  • Possess reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer pre-employment physical.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs.
  • Ability to frequently bend at the waist and lift above waist height.
  • Ability to frequently lift over 50 lbs. depending on machine center.
  • Constant repetitive use of hands.
  • Constant standing/walking.
  • Occasional sitting.
  • Near and far correctable vision; depth perception.
  • Hearing is preferred for awareness of surrounding machinery, mobile equipment, and emergencies.

  • Ability to stay on task.
  • Motivated to learn (asks questions, self-starter).
  • Follows instructions.
  • Communicates with mentor/supervisor and teacher/counselor any questions/problems/issues that arise.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Safety / Lock Out Tag Out policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate mechanical inclination.
  • Utilize knowledge of basic hand tools (metric and standard).
  • Stay on task and motivated to learn.
  • Follow instructions and communicate effectively with mentors, supervisors, and teachers/counselors regarding any questions, problems, or issues.
  • Be available to work 30-40 hours per week during the summer, including weekends.
  • Be available to work after school and weekends during the school year (not to exceed 20 hours/week).
  • Provide grades and attendance documentation upon request.
  • Tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, and airborne particles (sawdust).
