About The Position

This position requires having served as a police officer and or graduated from a police academy comparable to the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice's academy hours at the time of graduation. The BASIC FUNCTION is to participate in monitoring student activities; maintain order and acceptable conduct among students; and provide protection for students and faculty by patrolling school grounds.

Requirements

  • Served as a police officer and/or graduated from a police academy comparable to the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice's academy hours at the time of graduation.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to participate in monitoring student activities.
  • Ability to maintain order and acceptable conduct among students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports.
  • Ability to learn related District policies and objectives.
  • Four-year college degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • If not already POPS certified, must meet Peace Officers Professional Standards within the first year of employment as outlined by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in monitoring student activities; maintain order and acceptable conduct among students.
  • Prevent trespassers from entering or remaining in school buildings without proper authorization according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Monitor student activities in hallways, cafeterias and escort persons exhibiting undesirable behavior to school office or out of the building as necessary.
  • Assist school administration in developing and implementing policies and procedures for student discipline.
  • Consult with office administration and recommend security plans as assigned.
  • Report incidents to appropriate personnel; prepare reports of incidents which occur on school grounds.
  • Monitor loading and unloading of school buses.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
