About The Position

The Iowa City Community School District is seeking a full-time School Nurse for the 2026-2027 school year. This role is crucial in providing direct and indirect health services to students, contributing to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the school health services program. The goal is to enhance student learning, promote overall school system efficiency, and maximize educational opportunities for each child. The nurse will be assigned to North Central Middle School and will work a year as established by the Board of Directors, with salary determined by district-adopted schedules. Performance will be evaluated according to district policy, state statute, and any applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

  • Registered nurse with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Community health or school nursing experience preferred
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people
  • Evidence of good ability to communicate with a wide range of people
  • Strong knowledge of the healthcare needs of children

Responsibilities

  • Assess students’ physical and emotional health to plan and develop an individualized plan for the provision of health services at school.
  • Plan and oversee the provision of first aid and emergency care to students during the school day.
  • Collaborate with community agencies and district staff to promote health and wellness for students, families, and staff.
  • Assist students and families in accessing health care and social service resources.
  • Plan and supervise the care of students with special health care needs, including training of district staff providing this care.
  • Provide staff training on student health conditions.
  • Consult with parents and health care providers.
  • Participate in the planning and operation of the school health services programs to aid in preventing and controlling communicable diseases.
  • Maintain student health records.
  • Assist in the identification, follow-up, and reporting of child abuse/neglect cases.
  • Assist in the evaluation of district Health Services.
  • Assist the Senior Health Services Manager where appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
