About The Position

The IT Technician installs workstations and repairs stand-alone, WAN, and LAN networks, including servers, switches, workstations, and printers. This role involves installing peripherals, configuring workstation software, and providing support through a help desk and on-site assistance. The position requires creativity, initiative, and the ability to utilize various technologies and computer platforms.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of all industry operation systems (Mac, Windows, iOS, Chrome, etc.) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic productivity applications (Microsoft Office, Google Apps, email, web browsers, etc.) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques, methods, tools, and procedures pertaining to various aspects of networked computer systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic industry-standard networking principles is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic network protocols, cabling, routers, and switches is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Administer systems (e.g., email systems, accounts, print queues, workstation IDs, IP assignments, computer labs, classroom computers, security, antivirus, spyware) to ensure availability of services.
  • Assist in the installation and configuration of laptops, workstations, tablets, and mobile devices (e.g., Microsoft Windows and Apple OSX) for network placement.
  • Assist with District information systems applications (e.g., Help Desk, student, finance, personnel, learning, communication, facilities, security, child nutrition, library) to ensure efficient operations and correct data extraction.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of all new and current operating systems and hardware approved for use by District staff and students.
  • Coordinate with other staff within the district to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Install District user workstations, software, and peripherals, including stand-alone, LAN-connected, wireless, and WAN-connected systems (e.g., service packs, application software, operating software, hardware upgrades) to upgrade and maintain District WAN/LAN and telecommunication systems.
  • Maintain and repair data systems equipment (e.g., servers, computers, printers, scanners) to ensure efficient operations.
  • Support District information system applications (e.g., student, finance, personnel, communication, facilities, child nutrition, library).
  • Manage inventory of computers, printers, and peripherals; set up Chromebook and laptop carts, and refresh inventory.
  • Verify inventory accuracy in Help Desk and ensure items are appropriately provisioned and organized in Google Console.
  • Maintain proper licensing.
  • Analyze, interpret, and implement hardware and software specifications as needed.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and District-provided training to stay updated on workstations, networks, and software.
  • Provide training and orientation to District computer users, one-to-one or in a group setting.
  • Provide instruction to District personnel and public users (students, visitors, community members, vendors, etc.) with BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) access.
  • Install and/or support audio and projection systems; troubleshoot connectivity and quality issues.
  • Procure equipment and materials (e.g., computer components, tools, cables) to resolve technical support issues on District equipment.
  • Comply with policies and procedures to ensure safety, network security, and confidentiality.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation and records of installations, repairs, system setups, maintenance, and purchases.
  • Manage inventory of all site computers and peripherals.
  • Provide on-site and help desk technical support to users (e.g., procedures, systems use, data extraction) to ensure users and sites are operational.
  • Respond to inquiries from various sources (e.g., staff, administrators, school site personnel, outside vendors and service providers) to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Review and evaluate procedures and schedules for efficient use of technology equipment by district staff and students.
  • Assist in the procurement process of new and current hardware and software to maintain efficient operating systems and programs.
  • Evaluate systems and the need for upgrades based on District needs and budget to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Assist in the procurement process of hardware and software for upgrades/updates and new programs.
  • Request quotations to provide cost information to District staff.
  • Transport equipment and supplies to job sites or for repair.
  • Coordinate with vendors on software, hardware, and operations installation; troubleshoot technical issues, administration, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware and/or software applications within the District's local and wide area networks, telephones, and security systems (e.g., servers, switches, routers, network protocols) to resolve operational issues and restore services.
  • Assist with troubleshooting network and server issues.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other technical duties as assigned.
