About The Position

AHRC New York City is seeking a School RN for Astoria Blue Feather, a Special Education school serving 3-5 year olds with developmental disabilities. This role is ideal for building relationships and supporting ongoing health in a non-clinical school setting. The School Nurse will be responsible for maintaining student health records, disseminating health information, training staff in OSHA and first aid, and treating students. The position involves interpreting student health status to parents and school personnel, initiating referrals, providing health counseling, planning health management protocols for students with chronic health problems (including medication administration), serving as a resource for health instruction, and coordinating school and community health activities.

Requirements

New York State License as a Registered Nurse required
Bachelors Degree required

Responsibilities

Perform the duties of School Nurse in a Special Education school age 3-5 year old's with developmental disabilities.
Maintain student health records.
Disseminate important proactive health information to staff and families.
Train staff in OSHA and first aid.
Treat students visiting the nurse’s office.
Interpret health status of students to parents and school personnel.
Initiate referrals to parents, school personnel and community health resources for intervention, remediation and follow-through.
Provide ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel and health agencies.
Plan and implement school health management protocols for students with chronic health problems, including administration of medication.
Serve as resource person to classroom teacher and administrator in health instruction.
Coordinate school and community health activities and community.
