About The Position

AHRC New York City is seeking a School Aide for Brooklyn Blue Feather, a special education school located in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. This is a part-time/per-diem position operating Monday through Friday from 8:45 A.M. to 2:45 P.M. The role is part of a 10-month program with an additional 30-day summer session. The School Aide will work under the direction of a Teacher/Behavior Trainer to implement daily activity schedules and lesson plans, supporting student objectives as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Direct care services, including toileting, dressing, and feeding, will be provided in an instructional manner to foster future student independence. Responsibilities also include assisting with student arrival and dismissal, participating in off-classroom activities like playground or field trips, ensuring student safety, and understanding the impact of disabilities on student performance. Familiarity with IEP objectives, educational methodologies, medical alerts, and Enhanced Protective Oversight Plans (EPOP) is required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the daily activity schedule/lesson plans under the direction of the Teacher/Behavior Trainer.
  • Support and guide the implementation of a student’s objectives as indicated in his/her IEP.
  • Provide direct care services to student as needed, including toileting, dressing and feeding, in an instructional manner.
  • Participate in the arrival and dismissal of student as needed.
  • Participate in activities outside the classroom when necessary (e.g. playground, field trips, gym etc.).
  • Interact with the student and address the student’s safety and physical needs.
  • Understand the nature of the student’s disability and its impact on the student’s performance.
  • Be familiar with the student’s IEP objectives including the educational purpose and methodology.
  • Be familiar with the student’s medical alerts and EPOP (Enhanced Protective Oversight Plan).
