About The Position

The City of Lawrence is seeking School Crossing Guards for the 2026–2027 school year. These are part-time, temporary positions. Duties include responsible part-time work facilitating safe passage at school crossings. An employee in this class is responsible for directing children on foot and motor traffic at a street location where children cross when going to and from school. The current crossing guard vacancies are expected to serve the following locations: 9th & Schwartz (Sunset Hill Elementary School), Law Avenue & Princeton (Deerfield Elementary School), 27th & Louisiana, Access Tunnel (Billy Mills Middle School).

Requirements

• In good physical condition.
• No loss of sight or hearing.
• Able to stand for extended periods in all weather conditions.
• Dependable.
• Available to work until the end of May 2027.
• Must successfully pass a City administered background check prior to start.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience interacting with children in a leadership role.
• Interest in back-up only positions.

Responsibilities

• Facilitating safe passage at school crossings.
• Directing children on foot and motor traffic at a street location where children cross when going to and from school.
• Attending occasional staff meetings.
• Working independently and with little supervision.

Benefits

• $100 annual bonus for perfect attendance.
• Additional $100 annual bonus if asked to return to the position the following school year.
• Paid 10 days a year when school is not in session.
