About The Position

The Reynoldsburg City Schools' School Counselor is responsible for providing a comprehensive school counseling program that is developmental, preventative, responsive, and in alignment with the school’s goals and mission. This role focuses on the academic, career, and social-emotional development of all students through data-informed practices, advocacy, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Valid Ohio School Counselor license.
  • Knowledge of Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES) standards and requirements.
  • Knowledge of Federal and state laws regarding student privacy, special education, and mandatory reporting.
  • Knowledge of Career development pathways and post-secondary educational requirements.
  • Knowledge of Ohio's Social Emotional Learning Standards and competencies.
  • Skilled in effective communication with diverse student populations, parents, and staff.
  • Skilled in identifying and mobilizing community-based support resources.
  • Skilled in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to analyze student data to improve academic and social outcomes.
  • Ability to facilitate transition programs between different school grade levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with building principals and curriculum staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an educational setting tailored to the building's grade bands (Elementary, Middle, or Secondary/High School level).
  • Knowledge of local community resource identification and utilization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively envision and design a proactive school counseling program that aligns with the school's goals, mission, and Ohio standards.
  • Take leadership in identifying and coordinating resources necessary for the success of the counseling program.
  • Deliver a developmentally appropriate counseling curriculum utilizing flexible delivery methods (such as individual, small group, classroom, or large-scale experiences) to fit the unique structural needs and scheduling constraints of the building.
  • Deliver experiences and activities designed to promote the development of knowledge, skills, and mindsets related to academic, college/career, and social/emotional success.
  • Provide individual student planning to support academic progress, college and career-related pathways, and social-emotional goal setting and achievement.
  • Deliver responsive services, including individual and group counseling, to assist students in problem-solving and attaining personal goals.
  • Collaborate and consult with school personnel, parents, and guardians to coordinate support and achieve common goals for student success.
  • Manage procedures for the identification and utilization of community resources and provide referrals as needed.
  • Engage in a cycle of continuous improvement by monitoring student performance and program effectiveness using data.
  • Use data to recommend changes to specific practices, school policies, or procedures to foster student success.
  • Lead efforts to advocate for programs, policies, and practices that support an equitable, safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all students.
  • Advocate for the school counseling profession and the role counselors play in student growth.
  • Adhere to the ethical standards of the profession and all federal and state laws regarding student privacy and mandatory reporting.
  • Lead and facilitate staff development programs designed to communicate information concerning student needs and effective intervention strategies.
  • Manage orientation and transition programs designed to provide continuity in the students' educational experiences as they progress from one school level to the next.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.
