About The Position

The School Bus Driver operates a school mini-bus to transport children to and from school and on field trips. The driver works within Harbor Child Care’s policies and procedures under the supervision of the Facilities/Transportation Manager and Center Director, and carries out assigned duties across Harbor centers. The role also includes bus upkeep and records, handyman tasks, moving supplies and furniture, and providing reasonable support for the cohesive operation of the child care center.

Requirements

Valid New York State CDL Class A, B, or C driver's license with Passenger Endorsement.
At least 21 years old.
Able to obtain 19A certification.
Pass a pre-employment background check.
Able to lift and carry car seats and other items weighing up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

Transport children to and from school and on field trips in a school mini-bus.
Drive safely and carefully, following Department of Transportation guidelines and New York State OCFS regulations.
Follow directions and use knowledge of bus routes and directions.
Attend staff training as needed.
Maintain a professional, neat, and clean appearance.
Complete the Bus Maintenance Record before and after trips.
Support teachers in accurately accounting for children during school pickups and drop-offs.
Check that the bus is in good repair, including seat belts and brakes, and report major repair issues to the Facilities/Transportation Manager.
Refuel the bus when necessary.
Maintain accurate bus records and log books.
Perform assigned maintenance and handyman duties.
Assist with transporting supplies and equipment.
Set up or remove furniture for special events.
Be available to care for children in emergencies or when there is an unusual number of teacher absences.
Perform other reasonable duties as needed for the cohesive operation of the child care center.
