Full Time School Bus Driver - Mineola
About The Position
The School Bus Driver operates a school mini-bus to transport children to and from school and on field trips. The driver works within Harbor Child Care’s policies and procedures, under the supervision of the Facilities/Transportation Manager and Center Director, and carries out assigned duties across Harbor centers. The role also supports teachers with accurate pickup and drop-off accounting, maintains bus records, and helps ensure the bus is safe and in good repair. Other duties include performing assigned maintenance and handyman tasks, refueling the bus, moving supplies and equipment, setting up or removing furniture for special events, and helping care for children in emergencies or when teacher absences require additional support. The driver must follow Department of Transportation guidelines and NYS OCFS regulations, follow directions and routes, and maintain a courteous, professional appearance.
Requirements
- Valid New York State CDL Class A, B, or C driver's license with Passenger Endorsement.
- At least 21 years old.
- Able to obtain 19A certification.
- Able to lift and carry car seats and other items weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Selected applicants must pass a pre-employment background check.
Responsibilities
- Operate a school mini-bus to transport children to and from school and on field trips.
- Drive safely and follow Department of Transportation guidelines and NYS OCFS regulations.
- Follow directions and bus routes.
- Support teachers in accurately accounting for children's pickup and drop-off at schools.
- Complete the Bus Maintenance Record before and after trips.
- Check seat belts, brakes, and other items to ensure the bus is in good repair, and report major repair issues to the Facilities/Transportation Manager.
- Refuel the bus when necessary and maintain accurate bus records and log books.
- Perform maintenance and handyman duties as assigned.
- Assist with moving supplies and equipment and setting up or removing furniture for special events.
- Attend staff trainings as needed.
- Be available to care for children during emergencies or unusual numbers of teacher absences, and perform other reasonable duties that support the child care center.
