About The Position

DATTCO provides a training program for individuals who do not yet have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and want to become School Bus Drivers. Trainees receive classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction from certified instructors, learn applicable state and federal school transportation regulations, and prepare to obtain a CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. Training also covers defensive driving, student management, vehicle inspections, and safe school bus operation. After successfully completing training and licensing requirements, trainees transition into a School Bus Driver role. Trainees may have the opportunity to work as a School Bus Monitor during training, subject to route availability. The position is described as meaningful part-time work with a flexible schedule, weekends, holidays, and school breaks off, and potential additional hours through field trips and charter work.

Requirements

• At least 21 years old.
• Valid driver's license with a clear driving record.
• Ability to obtain a CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
• Ability to pass required background checks, drug screening, and DOT physical requirements.
• Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
• Reliable, punctual, and professional.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to repeatedly enter and exit the vehicle and perform required vehicle inspections.
• Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and use vehicle safety equipment.
• Ability to assist passengers during boarding, exiting, and emergency evacuations.

Responsibilities

• Complete classroom and behind-the-wheel training with certified instructors.

• Conduct vehicle inspections and safety checks.
• Develop the skills necessary to safely operate a school bus.
• After training and licensing, safely transport students to and from school and other activities as a School Bus Driver.
