About The Position

DATTCO provides training, support, and guidance to help trainees earn a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and become fully licensed School Bus Drivers. Trainees participate in classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, learn transportation regulations and safety practices, and prepare for the required CDL endorsements. After successfully completing training and licensing requirements, trainees transition into a School Bus Driver role. Trainees may be able to work as a School Bus Monitor during training to supplement their income, depending on route availability.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Have a valid driver's license with a clear driving record.
• Be able to obtain a CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
• Pass required background checks, drug screening, and DOT physical requirements.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and customer service.
• Be reliable, punctual, and professional.
• Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Be able to repeatedly enter and exit the vehicle and perform required vehicle inspections.
• Be able to bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and use vehicle safety equipment.
• Be able to assist passengers during boarding, exiting, and emergency evacuations.

Responsibilities

• Complete classroom and behind-the-wheel training with certified instructors.
• Learn state and federal school transportation regulations.
• Prepare for and obtain a CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Learn defensive driving techniques and student management skills.
• Conduct vehicle inspections and safety checks.
• Develop the skills necessary to safely operate a school bus.
• After training and licensing, safely transport students to and from school and other activities.
• When working as a School Bus Monitor, assist students during AM and PM pickups.
