About The Position

Seeking individuals to directly supervise a Before & After School childcare site serving children grades K-6 at the Gibbs Community Learning Center. The role ensures the site operates effectively, maintaining licensing, safety, and Step Up to Quality standards. The Lead Teacher will develop and lead weekly lesson plans aligned with Ohio's K-12 standards and conduct informal assessments on children's progress. This position cultivates positive relationships with families, teachers, school and district leaders, state licensing authorities, and community contacts. The Lead Teacher will lead and be part of an amazing team of YMCA staff focused on teaching teamwork and social skills and supporting children as they grow and learn, making a difference through their work in a caring, educational setting rooted in the mission of the YMCA, a non-profit charity organization.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass a background check
  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma/GED (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or higher in education or related field or CPL level 3 or above preferred (School Age Endorsement II accepted)
  • Early childhood classroom experience, including lesson planning & conducting assessments
  • Demonstrates knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice

Responsibilities

  • Develop & lead weekly lesson plans aligned with Ohio's K-12 standards & conduct informal assessments on children's progress.

  • Lead and be a part of an amazing team of YMCA staff focused on teaching teamwork and social skills and supporting children as they grow and learn!
  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  • Responsible for well-being and personal growth of the children.
  • Assists with homework.
  • Leads the classroom team that includes supervision of Assistant Teachers.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Conducts parent conferences, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Maintains classroom and program equipment.
  • Maintains required program records.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Maintains training in First aid, CPR, Communicable Diseases and Child Abuse Awareness as well as 10 hours of Ohio Approved training per year.
