About The Position

FRUITPORT COMMUNITY SCHOOLS NOTICE OF INTENT TO EMPLOY DEPARTMENT: Early Childhood Center LOCATION: Edgewood Elementary POSITION: School Age Lead Teacher. Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 6:15 a.m.- 6 p.m. Lead teachers are required to work 6 hours in the classroom daily. Must be available to work additional hours on summer break, in emergency situations, and when deemed necessary by the program director. Hourly Wage: $19.00 Reports to: Early Childhood Center Director Supervises: Program Assistants Job Begins: Aug 17, 2026

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with six semester hours, 9 CEUs or a combination to equal 90 clock hours of coursework in a child care administration, early childhood education, child development, youth development or child-related field, 30 hours of training from MiRegistry or Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate [with 480 hours experience] or completion of a minimum of 60 semester hours [with 720 hours documented experience] (with no less than 12 semester hours in child development, child psychology, or early childhood education), Associates in Early Childhood [with 480 hours experience] with 15 hours of school age training or Bachelors degree or higher in child related field.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certificates
  • Evidence of successful experience with school age children
  • Possession of effective oral/written communication skills
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • DHS Central Registry Clearance

  • Experience in school-age setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and carry out daily activities for appropriate age groups.
  • Maintain accurate records for billing and licensing.
  • Create a monthly snack calendar and activity schedule.
  • Model appropriate behavior, support, and involvement during activities with children.
  • Set and maintain routine and order.
  • Develop thematic units and learning activities that are age appropriate.
  • Communicate with parents on a daily basis.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings/training to keep current on childcare issues.
  • Supervise, direct and support teacher assistant.
  • Performs all other responsibilities as assigned by the program director.
