About The Position

The Scheduler / Dispatcher performs day to day scheduling and dispatch activities for the Patient Transportation Department. He/she schedules clients for transportation to and from medical appointments while maintaining communication with drivers to assure on‐time transport. He/she must be able to evaluate existing driver schedules and routes, and make adjustments as necessary to ensure efficient and cost‐effective daily operations. The Scheduler / Dispatcher maintains a thorough working knowledge and proficiency in departmental software, telephones, radios, protocols, policies and procedures. He/she completes all assigned reports and transport documents; and assists the Supervisor with collection of data and completion of required bi‐weekly, monthly and on‐demand departmental reports. In addition to the normal and routine job requirements, if the Scheduler/Dispatcher meets the additional preferred certification requirements for Patient Transportation Specialist, he/she may be required to occasionally drive one of the department’s fleet vehicles.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
  • Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with ‘P’ endorsement preferred.
  • One year of scheduling and/or dispatching experience preferred.
  • Experience in public transportation is preferred.
  • If maintaining a current CDL, must meet minimum requirements determined by Mississippi Department of Transportation for staff involved in Elderly and Disabled Transportation Program.
