About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking a Scale Operator for their Amsterdam, Ohio Landfill location. This role is crucial for weighing solid waste vehicles, managing payments, and ensuring the safety and security of the scale house and landfill operations. The Scale Operator will be the primary point of contact for drivers and vendors, responsible for accurate record-keeping and load verification. This position operates on a rotating shift schedule of 3 days on, 4 days off, followed by 4 days on, 3 days off, and involves overnight work. The role requires significant use of motor coordination for tasks like typing and machine operation, and daily exposure to the physical environment of a landfill, including odors, loud noises, and weather elements.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • High school/GED education completed.
  • Minimum 2 years of warehouse environment experience.
  • Working knowledge of general computer skills.
  • Consistently capable of working independently to safely analyze and resolve problems.
  • Fluency in English required.

Nice To Haves

  • Higher education is a plus.
  • Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with scales is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in the safe operation of all garage tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, hoists, and jacking equipment.
  • Spanish bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Weighing in and weight out solid waste vehicles from company drivers and third-party vendors/haulers.
  • Overseeing receiving payments, checking loads, and ensuring the safety of the landfill and scale.
  • Serving as the first point of contact for drivers, customers, or other traffic at the scale house.
  • Accurately calculating and processing payments, weights, and other measurements.
  • Verifying incoming loads do not contain any unnecessary or inappropriate material.
  • Performing various administrative tasks including regular filing, data entry, and reporting.
  • Providing general upkeep of the scale house.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
