About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is a leading provider of solid waste and recycling services in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with a unique rail-served landfill in Ohio. Founded in 1998, IWS combines the resources of a large company with the values of a family-run business, serving a diverse range of industrial, medical, and commercial/residential customers. The Scale Operator is a crucial role, serving as the first point of contact for drivers and vendors, ensuring accurate weighing and payment processing, and maintaining the safety and security of the scale house and landfill operations.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• High school/GED education completed.
• Minimum 2 years of warehouse environment experience.
• Working knowledge of general computer skills.
• Consistently capable of working independently to safely analyze and resolve problems.
• Fluency in English required.

Nice To Haves

• Higher education is a plus.
• Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with scales is strongly preferred.
• Knowledgeable in the safe operation of all garage tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, hoists, and jacking equipment.
• Spanish bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Weighing in and weighing out solid waste vehicles from company drivers and third-party vendors/haulers.
• Overseeing receiving payments.
• Checking incoming loads for inappropriate material.
• Serving as the first point of contact for drivers, customers, and other traffic at the scale house.
• Accurately calculating and processing payments, weights, and other measurements.
• Performing various administrative tasks including regular filing, data entry, and reporting.
• Providing general upkeep of the scale house.
• Performing additional duties as assigned.
