About The Position

The SBA Closer/Packager Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end execution of SBA loan closings and packaging activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across all SBA transactions. This role leads a team of closers/packagers, drives process efficiency, and serves as a subject matter expert in SBA loan documentation, closing, funding, and secondary market preparation. In addition to leadership responsibilities, this role functions as a “player-coach,” directly managing and closing a personal pipeline of SBA loans while overseeing team performance. The Team Lead partners closely with underwriting, credit, sales, servicing, and secondary market teams to ensure a seamless transition from approval through funding and sale.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of SBA loan closing, packaging, or underwriting support experience
  • 2+ years in a leadership or senior/mentor role
  • Strong knowledge of SBA SOP and closing requirements
  • Experience with SBA secondary market processes
  • Proven ability to manage pipeline volume and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with SBA reporting (e.g., 1502) and servicing processes
  • Prior experience with construction/CRE SBA loans
  • Leadership and team development

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of SBA closers and packagers.
  • Manage pipeline flow to ensure all loans are closed and packaged within SLA expectations.
  • Assign workloads, monitor productivity, and ensure accurate and timely execution.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance feedback.
  • Serve as escalation point for complex transactions and problem resolution.
  • Balance individual production responsibilities with team oversight, modeling best practices and performance standards for the team.
  • Independently manage and close a pipeline of SBA loans from approval through funding and sale.
  • Prepare, review, and execute complete closing packages in compliance with SBA SOP, credit approval, and bank policy.
  • Coordinate closing timelines and required documentation for assigned loans.
  • Maintain the same quality, accuracy, and timeliness standards expected of the team.
  • Serve as a hands-on subject matter expert by actively performing closing and packaging functions.
  • Oversee preparation and review of complete closing packages for SBA loans.
  • Ensure all closing documents comply with SBA SOP, credit approval, and bank policy.
  • Validate accuracy of loan structures, terms, collateral, and guaranty requirements.
  • Coordinate closing timelines with internal and external stakeholders (borrowers, legal, title, etc.).
  • Ensure proper execution of loan documents prior to funding.
  • Oversee the preparation of complete SBA loan packages for funding and sale.
  • Ensure all required SBA documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant.
  • Perform pre- and post-close quality control reviews and audits.
  • Maintain consistent file integrity, organization, and imaging standards.
  • Ensure loans are properly structured, documented, and packaged for secondary market sale.
  • Coordinate with secondary market team on timing, delivery, and stipulations.
  • Oversee preparation of sale packages and support settlement processes.
  • Ensure adherence to SBA SOP, bank policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Validate eligibility, use of proceeds, and documentation standards prior to closing.
  • Support internal and external audits, including SBA reviews.
  • Maintain expertise in SBA program updates and ensure team compliance.
  • Partner with underwriting, credit, sales, servicing, and closing counsel to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate third-party vendors (appraisals, title, environmental, UCCs).
  • Facilitate communication between stakeholders to ensure smooth closings.
  • Identify and implement workflow improvements to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and reconciliation across loan systems.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, checklists, and training guides.
  • Leverage personal production experience to continuously refine team processes and standards.
