About The Position

Assists in the manufacture of aluminum ingots by performing various duties, including assisting operators, cutting aluminum logs for internal or external use, and driving a forklift. The role involves operating a billet saw, reading work orders, setting up the machine, measuring work pieces, observing operations, stamping billets, and filling out reports. Additionally, the position requires operating forklifts, including inspections, moving materials, cutting steel bands, charging the melter, skimming and cleaning equipment, running material through a gross machine, checking and emptying pots, and hauling out logs.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to walk, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and follow instruction of Operators
  • Performs any task assigned by Supervisor
  • Follows safe work practices
  • Operate Billet Saw
  • Reads work orders to determine alloy, diameter, length, and quantity of billets to cut per order
  • Loads billets onto ramp feeding oven
  • Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule or template
  • Positions work piece against stops
  • Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine
  • Measures work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
  • Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction
  • Stamps cast number and alloy on each billet
  • Fills out billet saw report
  • Operates Forklifts
  • Inspect lift per inspection form
  • Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus
  • Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device
  • Cut all steel bands off scrap
  • Charge melter
  • Skim and clean (melter and holder)
  • After skimming melter, run gross through gross machine
  • Check and empty all pots
  • Haul out logs
