About The Position

The Sanitation Laborer performs routine tasks collecting and removing refuse and solid waste within the City of Paragould. This non-exempt position includes collecting waste along assigned routes, operating sanitation truck mechanisms, supporting safe vehicle movement, and maintaining the truck and related records. The employee is expected to work safely and attentively, support community needs, collaborate effectively, and demonstrate the City's values and high ethical standards.

Requirements

High school graduation or GED equivalent, or a combination of experience and training demonstrating the knowledge and experience needed to perform the work.
Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Expected to work effectively with others to meet community and organizational needs, lead by example, and demonstrate high ethical standards.

Responsibilities

Pick up garbage, refuse, and solid waste along an assigned route and deposit it into the sanitation truck.
Note variances from prescribed service and make special collections as assigned.
Operate the lever mechanism to empty dumpsters.
Operate the packer mechanism to compact collected refuse.
Operate the dumping mechanism to remove refuse from the sanitation truck at the NEASW landfill.
Wash, clean, and service the sanitation truck on the assigned day.
Signal truck drivers to help ensure safe driving and proper backing to dumping areas.
Notify the driver of signal, brake-light, and other equipment malfunctions.
Provide new employees with information about safety precautions in refuse collection or disposal.
Inform members of the public about refuse materials prohibited by ordinance, rules, or procedures.
Maintain records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, collection activity, and other relevant work.
Maintain constant alertness and work safely.
Perform other duties as required.
